Spooled Up Racing wants your input

Postby SILV14 » 16 Sep 2010, 13:33

This site is for the members. We want to members to help us. I don't know if some of you have noticed the site has come to almost a stand still. We are gaining more inactive users than active lately. The Staff of the site have been discussing this for a few days now, and I think we too are at a stand still. The Founders and Staff designed this site, and have been giving ideas for a year. At first, the site grew fast. It seems like it was changing everyday, new features, new forum topics.. ect. Some features that were being tested couldn't make an appearance on the forum because of instabilities or interference to stuff that worked. Well lately I think we have just quietly decided to sit back and see what happens. Well nothing seems to be happening.

Now its time for the members to help. Take a couple minutes out of your lurking and post an idea, or a criticism. I think we are open to all suggestions.

Any constructive criticism is welcome. Any input is appreciated.

Want to see a feature? We'll do our best to make it happen as long as it makes you come back more often.

Here is my two cents:

1) I don't participate as much as I should because I am super busy and I know little about cars;

2) I think somehow, someway, we need to get more members;

3) Perhaps one way in which we can do number 2 is to create a brand specific section and then model subsection (E.g. Mazda, Mazda Speed 3/Mazda3 or BMW, 3 series, E90 07-present, etc.). The reason being is that most people's questions and expertise tend to be pretty specific;

4) We need a section for Midwest, East Coast, West Coast, Pacific Northwest, Southwest, etc. Also Sections for Europe, Asia, Australia, etc. We gotta think BIG!;

5) My car is for sale, so let me know, just kidding :D ;

6) Perhaps we could have section for feature articles or blogs where someone could submit and be published their ideas or expertise on a particular issue (E.g. maintaining proper air to fuel ratio (AFR); and finally

7) We need a section for pics of hot chicks and cars.

Well, that's all I got for now, back to work

Ok to answer u Damien (THX btw for the input)

1. NO EXCUSE ;)

2. thats what we are here for :)

3. the problem I see with that is THIS forum is an "all car" forum if we start to make mini forums for every car line can u imagine HOW BIG this would have to be and how much would not get used... And if we did not include a certain manufacture I promise u those with that car will NEVER return.

4. I like this idea.. always have my only reason behind not adding it was due to not a big enough crowd, but if it will help with growth I will add it

5. NICE!!!

6. I think alot of this has been put in the FI and N/a forums.. we also have a article thread here
viewforum.php?f=86

7. We do its the VIP.. get 50 posts and u will be allowed in the VIP

The real problem not just here but on a few forums I belong to is that the members slack on posting. Some of us are guilty of not sharing new things or ideas. Being busy I hear that all the time! really how long does it take to respond to a thread or post an idea. I even tried post some of my friends cars since they don't do the forum thing at all, but got very few responses. The Automotive news section is never used, I thought that would be a popping section. Simply getting new members won't help if the current members don't post. Look at the COTM for starters nobody even tries anymore. I mean damn I'm sure most of us have cars, so just throw it in there. Be active, not passive. Adding sections will just make things look even more empty around here, we need to get things moving in the sections we currently have. I see members logged on from time to time, but no new post WTF? This forum can't live on the post of 3-4 members. Maybe contacting our members to see whats going on that prevents them from visiting.

I couldn't agree more.. I feel EVERY ONE OF US is slacking.. not only members but mods/admins alike.. Its like everyone has lost the desire to have fun, keep active and help build growth :(

This place is for Everyone else.. not just me.. But if nobody will tell me what I can do to better the forum or make it a better place for everyone then this issue will NEVER get resolved... I want to be proactive I WANT to add new sections I WANT to do more to help everyone.. But if I do everything the the forum will only grow around MY LIKING.. which is not making the forum for EVERYONE..

To be honest I can only say that I have interacted with a few members here. It's sad to say, but true. Where the hell are the mods anyways?

I am in the same boat.. I have only chatted with a few people who have every even posted.. As for the mods.. Well they were asked to show up and post (mainly in the mod section) but I am still waiting for a few of them to chime in. :/

To be honest, I also lose interest sometimes. I mean, I got on a roll modding my car then was satisfied and lost interest. Then I got real active on the golfing forums during the summer. Then I get back into the hi fi home theater forums. Now I'm selling my car and thinking more about cars and mods again. And again I just don't see the kind of useful stuff for my car like I do, for example, on Mazda3forums.com. I mean, if I want to know how to take something apart on my car, the recommended offset, which exhausts are best, etc, I find that all on Mazda3forums. I have hundreds and hundreds of posts there. As for a general car culture community, I think this forum is fine. Just not specific enough for my purposes - most of the time.
